While The Schaefer Yarn Company is just 15 years old, we have been hand dyeing variegated yarn commercially since 1980 - first in Mendocino, California, then in New York City. We now live and work in Interlaken, a village just north of Ithaca in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York, where Erich and I started Schaefer Yarn by ourselves. Now it takes a family of 9 to bring Schaefer Yarn to you.
